As for how this small business came to be, let me give you the backstory. My name is Stacey Arnold and I’m a trained Horticulturist. I attended Virginia Tech, majoring in Horticulture and minoring in Environmental Science. I worked for nearly 20 years in the green industry and loved my career. I met so many interesting people and learned a ton about plants of all kinds…woodies, herbaceous, annuals, perennials…you name it and I was lucky enough to have enjoyed all facets of it.

When I was pregnant with our daughter in 2008, my husband came home one day and started talking about our food system…how the food we ate wasn’t real food anymore, genetically modified organisms, glyphosate being sprayed on our crops… I was pregnant and the last thing I needed was one more thing to worry about. But me being me, I started researching what he was talking about and what do you know…it was all true! My newfound quest for food knowledge led me straight to the one and only Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm. I was hooked. At the time, we lived in a cul-de-sac on a shady lot that you couldn’t grow any kind of vegetable on, much less raise livestock. We made it our goal to buy some land in the country where we could raise our own food.

Fast forward eight long years. We found the perfect homestead for us here in Dinwiddie County. We immediately began raising 6 hens for eggs and the following spring we started our first batch of meat birds. That summer we decided to raise a couple of pigs. We now have over 50 laying hens, have raised hundred of meat birds and will send our 20th pig to the processor this fall. We do not find any enjoyment in taking an animal’s life but we do rejoice that we are able to raise healthy, happy animals for our consumption and now we are able to share that goodness with you and your family.

What started as an adventure in homesteading raising animals for our family has blossomed into a thriving, small business that allows me to partner with other local, like minded businesses. I take great pride in delivering those items directly to your door so that your family can enjoy the benefits of local, beyond organic food and personal care products.
